PLEDGE PROCESS

Our vision for the People’s Walk is grander than just an 11-week Walk through Colorado. In those 11 weeks we want to raise awareness about the affordable housing crisis, as well as the organizations in the communities we pass through who are trying to make a difference. Therefore, Walkers will have the option of collecting pledges that would directly assist the housing organization of their choice. They walk for Housing Justice, and leave behind resources for housing directly benefiting the community.

HOW IT WORKS

All registered Walkers of any distance are eligible to collect pledges for a 501-c3 housing-related non-profit organization of their preference. Housing Justice will supply a list of organizations on the People’s Walk website that includes contact information and a description of all the programs. Any organization listed has already spoken to Housing Justice! about the pledge process and both have mutually approved each other. Walkers will then be able to download a pledge sheet that specifies that organization, or they can request a pledge sheet directly from that organization. They register to walk with Housing Justice!, and the designated organization receives all the pledges collected. Donors will make checks payable to the 501-c3 organization.

HOUSING JUSTICE! RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDED:

  • Making sure the registrants know they can gather pledges

  • Supplying the registrants with a list of valid organizations

  • Having open discussion about the pledge process with any potential organization, if a Walker knows of one not on the list

  • Supplying the pledge organizations with a few promotional materials about pledges, if needed

PLEDGE ORGANIZATION RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Contacting Housing Justice! and going over expectations

  • Publicizing to their mailing lists about the Walk and the opportunity to collect pledges

  • Linking to the People's Walk website on their website, if possible

  • Replying to requests for pledge forms or more information

  • Ensuring all donations are collected

  • Acknowledging the donations and thanking the donors

  • Telling Housing Justice! within 30 days of the Walk the total amount raised.

WALKER RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Researching their selected organization in preparation of telling potential donors what the organization does

  • Asking friends, neighbors, and colleagues for pledges

  • Documenting all pledges and donations on the pledge sheet

  • Ensuring that checks are made out to the designated organization

  • Returning all pledges and donations to the organization with a copy of the pledge sheets, so that the organization can send the proper acknowledgments.
