How to use the Organizational Toolkit
Toolkit
All items in the toolkit are meant to be tailored to
your interests and your organization. If you download the documents, you
can cut and paste at will. Be sure to edit the spots where you need to
fill in specific information (e.g. contact info of your coordinator) and
change the name of the organization.
Pledges
Any housing-related 501-c(3) non-profit organization
is eligible to collect pledges specifically for that organization. To
learn more and to download an application, please visit the People’s
Walk website and click on “Collect Pledges”
Walk Teams
1) If interested in forming a Walk team, review the
“How to Form a Walk Team” document. This document identifies easy ways
to get a Walk Team going.
2) Download the Walk Team Sign-Up Sheet, and add a friend’s name
(someone you know is already interested) and yours to the sign-up sheet
first. Then display the sheet on a clipboard or bulletin board and
announce its location. [Remember: It is easier for people to sign up for
something when they see others are, too.] Use the “Flier for Walk Teams”
to advertise joining the Walk Team and collecting pledges.
3) Use the sign-up sheet to send reminders about the Walk. Make sure
everyone on your Walk team is registered with HJ! to walk.
Half-page ad and other promotional items
1) Use the half-page ad to advertise about the Walk in
your organization’s newsletter.
2) Use the “Flier to Mailing List” to advertise to members of your
mailing list how they can register for the Walk and collect pledges for
your organization, if eligible. Send as an addition to a mailing you are
already doing, or if possible, make the People’s Walk the purpose of a
mailing.
3) As an alternative to postal mailing, you might consider announcing
the Walk in your electronic newsletter.
Can’t walk?
There may be those who cannot or do not want to walk
5K. Don’t fret - we still want your participation! Consider staffing
water stations, helping register walkers, helping with voter
registration, driving support vehicles, bringing a potluck, or being a
cheerleader alongside the Community Walk. Be creative! There are many
ways you can be involved without physically walking. There are lines on
the Walk team registration form for people to write how they want to
help if they don’t walk. Community organizers will explain areas in
which assistance is needed. Contact Housing Justice! if you don’t know
who your community organizer is. You can also sign up to volunteer at
the People’s Walk website under “How to Get Your Community Involved.” |
