Full Route

The full route is over 800 miles. In any given day of the Walk we can accommodate 10-12 Walkers who walk the full day’s route (12 to 16 miles). We may have to limit the number of Walkers in certain sections of the Walk. Day Walkers will be charged $20/day, which is to cover food and other Walk costs, and they are responsible for their own lodging. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for walkers and staff.

Weekday Venues (Mon-Fri evenings)

The end-of-the-day communities will host a potluck dinner and discussion time about affordable housing issues specific to those communities. We will need a space big enough to hold about 50-100 people. Each night of the week will be themed differently, and we will rely heavily on the communities to publicize the event. We would also need permission to park our support vehicles for the night and space for 15 or so people to camp or rollout beds.

Weekend Venues

Each Saturday we will hold a Community Walk that will culminate in a Rally. The Rally will have food and entertainment, and will give sponsors and politicians a chance to address their issues. The Community Walk will be an approximate 5 km loop within town, passing examples of different kinds of housing and main parts of town. We will charge a fee of $30. We are encouraging online registrations at www.peopleswalk.org, but will have paper forms available if needed. Community Walkers will also have the opportunity to collect pledges for the local housing-related 501-c3 of their choice. We will need a table and volunteers to assist with checking in Walkers and registration. We will also need water stations set up and staffed at reasonable places along the route. We need to get the proper permits in place. We also need to a good start/stop point that has adequate parking and space for a rally.
