Long Day Walker Checklist

[Click here to download this checklist as a one-page Microsoft Word document]

As a long day walker, it is important to be prepared for a whole day’s worth of walking.  We hope that this list is gives you a good idea of what to expect during your time with the People’s Walk!

You can expect to walk between 12 and 16 miles each day.  Know your feet, and know what they are capable of and how best to support them.  Wear supportive walking shoes with sturdy, cotton, athletic socks.  We will have a first-aid kit, but it is a good idea to carry a few band-aids or moleskin on your own, just in case of blisters.  Choose clothes that are loose and that you will stay cool in and protected from the sun.  We will provide you with a People’s Walk yellow t-shirt as part of your registration.

Please call the Housing Justice! Offices two days before the start of your Long Walk to make sure all parties know what is happening and to confirm just where the starting and ending locations are.

Please be at the starting location of a Day Walk at 6am!  Breakfast will be served and the Walk starts promptly at 7am.  It is important to get an early start so as to be in the morning air’s coolness as much as possible, because it gets HOT in Colorado!

Please make sure you have a way to get back where you need to and arrange for someone to pick you up at the completion of your time with the People’s Walk.  We will carry your belongings for as long as you are with us, but you may want to have personal items in a small day pack or fanny pack.  Keep it light!
